Tips for Creating a Calm and Cozy Bedroom

Let’s face it, most of us know that our bedrooms should places of calm and relaxation. However, for some reason, they often end up as places of chaos where we store random collections of board games, and deal with towering piles of laundry.

Bedrooms should be somewhere where you feel that you can linger comfortably and relax, either alone, or with your partner. Aside from just a soft place for you to lay down your head after a long day, you need to know how to create a bedroom that’s calm, cozy, and perfect for getting a long night of restorative sleep. Here, we’ll offer some simple and effective tips for improving your bedroom experience.

1. Keep it Simple

In a world that’s full of accessories and little bits and pieces that you can use to spruce up your interior decorating ideas, it can be difficult to force yourself to keep things simple. Unfortunately, the more stuff you try to cram into your bedroom space, the more likely you are to stress yourself out with a room that seems overwhelmed and untidy. To create a calm and cozy atmosphere, make sure that you keep everything free from clutter. That means picking things up off the floor, and removing unnecessary stuff from the walls. Pick one or two pieces of art work at most for your bedroom space.

2. Make it Plush

Although we all try to cut costs in our day-to-day lives, spending a little more on a plush bedroom experience could be the key to exceptional comfort in your daily life. There are few things that are more relaxing than being able to sink into a truly comfortable bed. Remember to purchase plenty of soft pillows and delightful fabrics that will leave you sighing in delight every time you’re ready to go to bed.

3. Get a Great Night Stand

A reliable, and sturdy bedside night stand is a key element to creating a truly great bedroom space. After all, it’s always convenient to have a place where you can rest a glass of water or place your favorite book when you’re ready to snooze. Living without a nightstand could mean that everything ends up piling up on the floor beside your bed, and that can quickly lead to issues with excess clutter. What’s more, the last thing you want is to be knocking glasses of water over every time you get up in the morning.

4. Use Plenty of Light

Lighting is just as important in the bedroom as it is anywhere else in your home. Although natural sunlight is great to spruce up a bedroom atmosphere during the day, you should also have dimmed lighting to set the mood at night too. Sometimes, switching your natural lights out with a dimmer switch is a cheap and effective way to make your bedroom more relaxing and romantic. A bedside lamp is another great way to add some subtle light during nighttime.

5. Enjoy some Delightful Smells

Picking the perfect scent for your bedroom is a great way to improve your sense of relaxation when you’re ready to call it a night and drift off to the land of dreams. Sometimes, the perfect oil for improving your sleep and reducing your chances of stress when you’re supposed to be enjoying the comfort of your bedroom, is lavender. There are plenty of lavender-scented candles, sprays, and linen-based products that you can use to make your entire bedroom smell as delicious as possible. In fact, you can even get pillows that come with lavender inside!

6. Use a Seat

Sometimes, having a place to simply sit down and read, or removing your socks and shoes before you get into bed can be a great way to add some simple luxury to your bedroom. Whether you’re looking for a bench that you can keep at the foot of your bed and use to store extra linens and towels, or a simple side chair that you can place by a mirror for when you need to apply your makeup, make sure that there’s room for secondary seating.

7. Use a Rug!

Finally, if you have hard flooring in your bedroom, you should definitely think about using a rug to make your toes more cozy when you step out of bed first thing in a morning. This will help you to avoid that cold floor syndrome.
